Look for a groove at least ½ inch wide running down the inside of your bed post. It should be about as wide as the first knuckle of your index finger.
Look on the inside of the bed post for a groove running top to bottom, about ½ inch wide or wider, with a solid back for the claw to brace against.
Hold your index finger next to the groove. It should be about as wide as your first knuckle, or wider. Wider is always fine.
If light shows through the slot, it goes all the way through the post. There’s nothing for the claw to brace against, so it can’t hold weight. These are almost always metal frames.
A narrow line or slit, clearly thinner than the first knuckle of your index finger, is too thin for the claw to fit.
If the bed is attached to the wall, sits on built-in drawers or cabinets, or can’t be moved, it isn’t compatible.
Platform beds, beds on legs, and headboard-only frames don’t have the posts the Dormclaw clips onto.
Not sure? Search for your school below, or send us a photo of the inside of your bed post with your index finger held next to the groove for scale.
